Château Lalaudey
The soil

The Château Lalaudey vineyard is classified as AOC Moulis. It is very varied and, thanks to this diversity, it produces exceptional complexity, which is such a feature of the Great Medoc wines.

The Châteaux Lalaudey vines are located in two different, yet complimentary, areas:

- Much of our wine comes from vines that lie in the tertiary alluvial gravel of the Boucqueyran plateau. The grapes produced by these vines offer all the finesse of the Margaux wines and the character and complexity of the Saint-Juliens. Richness and finesse combined with roundness and harmony create extreme elegance and persistency in the mouth, thanks to the delicate tannins, which guarantee that the wines age so well.

- The other vines are located on nearby clay/chalk soil. During the harvest process, the juice from these grapes produces a slightly more full-bodied wine, reminiscent of the strength and body of the Pauillacs.
Since June 2002, the vineyard benefits from a significant development. Herbicides have been definitively banned as part of a move to return to the ancestral approach to working the soil. Each stage is painstakingly thought-out and our methods include green harvesting systems, thinning-out of the leaves, selection by plot, manual harvesting, double sorting… all possible resources are implemented to reach goals of the highest quality.

The castle

The Château Lalaudey buildings stand proudly on the highest point of the Boucqueyran plateau and its AOC Moulis tertiary gravel soil.

The installations were built in 2003 and run most of the way alongside the vineyard. This means that transport of the grapes is kept to a minimum during harvest and the quality of the pressing is consequently optimised.

The cellar and vat-room combineds both tradition and modernity. A construction of 2,000 m² is concealed behind the majestic triangular pediment, supported by 4 columns, and encompasses:

The Vat-room , which plays host to 18 thermo-regulated concrete vats, each with a unit capacity of 30 to 90hl. The vats were made to measure to ensure perfect results for each parcel. The density of the concrete guarantees optimal temperature regulation.
The reception area links directly with the vat-room, where you will find sorting tables, vibrating tables, the stalk-remover and the vertical press during the harvest period.

The cellar, where the French oak barrels (produced by 5 different coopers) are stored, was constructed in accordance with the purest Bordeaux traditions. It is not artificially air-conditioned and owes its constant coolness to perfect hygrometry, natural ventilation and a floor of hard-packed soil merely covered with gravel.

The warehouse is of course air-conditioned. The bottles are laid out here as they await to be dispatched.

The tasting and banquet hall is exceptionally située well located, directly between the vat-room and cellar. Thanks to its large bay windows, you can explore both areas whilst enjoying a comfortable drink. The magical, warm and muffled atmosphere of the cellar and its oak barrels mingles intimately with the sparkle of the stainless steel and brushed concrete of the vat-room. This lounge area makes the perfect venue for a unique rendez-vous with a great wine.

The offices, staff lodgings, caretaker’s quarters and the machine hangar make up the rest of the building.
